J Stamford Metcalfe
- volunteered for service with the RAF in 1941 at the age of seventeen
- sent to Rhodesia for training, solo'd on Tiger Moths and Oxfords
- sent back to join 100 sqdn as a navigator initially on Wellingtons and then converted to Lancasters
- served continuously on operations until the end of the war, by which time he was an H2S instructor
- demobbed in 1946
He is a straight talking yorkshireman, and quite a character. He was recently the subject of a TV documentary 'flashback' for the History channel and channel 4.
He also sells Poppies. I have told him to bring some along.
There is a posibility that we will have two speakers this year - there's a few possibilities for the second. I'll let you know when we get any more confirmations.
